For decades, energy storage has been inextricably linked to power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. Today, with the increasing supply of renewable energy, the power sector is undergoing drastic changes. Renewable energy is the future, making the need to provide electricity on-demand anytime, anywhere and on-demand more challenging.
Energy storage systems deliver cost savings to utilities and consumers by providing a range of technical approaches to managing supply and demand and creating a more flexible energy infrastructure.
With unique experience in energy production, transmission, power conversion and battery management, Infineon is the partner of choice for driving energy storage solutions (ESS) in terms of efficiency, innovation, performance and optimal cost. Infineon's discrete OptiMOS, CoolMOS™™, CoolSiC MOSFETs and IGBT modules, as well as highly integrated Level 3 Easy 1B/2B modules, functionally integrated EiceDRIVER™ gate driver ICs, XMC™™ controllers and security solutions are the products of choice in a wide range of energy storage system designs.
Energy storage systems are widely used in the energy supply chain
Battery-based energy storage systems (ESS) technology uses solar or wind energy facilities configured to provide clean energy and respond instantly to power outages. When installed at the front of the meter, the energy storage system stores energy in "bulk" and is used in combination with a renewable energy generation or transmission and distribution system. In residential and commercial situations, energy storage systems function in a meter-to-meter back-end mode.
